Each day, you follow the routines that make you, you — be it chatting with friends, having lunch, brushing your teeth…
But for some people, hard times in life can rob them of these moments of normalcy and dignity.
In Boston, the nonprofit Women’s Lunch Place (WLP) makes sure that all women, despite their circumstance, can have a space to focus on the habits that makes us feel healthy and happy.
Every day, Women’s Lunch Place serves more than 225 women experiencing homelessness or poverty.
Located in Boston’s Back Bay, WLP is a safe refuge for women during the day, when many overnight shelters are closed. WLP offers healthy meals, supportive services, and basic necessities including toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, and other toiletries.
Something as simple as a toothbrush can help a woman regain her dignity after she has been on the streets.
We rely on the kindness of donors to keep our closet stocked with supplies that guests need to maintain their personal hygiene. That’s why we are so appreciative of the generous donation of dental hygiene supplies from the Henry Schein Cares Foundation.
Women come to WLP for many reasons.
Some struggle with mental illness, some have escaped domestic violence, and others have lost their jobs. Regardless of a woman’s situation, we welcome her with unconditional dignity and without judgment.
In the words of one guest:
“You give me hope and safety from the streets and I know there is always someone who cares, who is always treating you with dignity. I don’t know where I would be if Women’s Lunch Place were closed.”
At Women’s Lunch Place, dignity is everything.
Staff, volunteers, and guests at Women’s Lunch Place thank the Henry Schein Cares Foundation for supporting us!
