Mission East Dallas, a Federally Qualified Health Center located in Dallas, TX, provided health care necessities for their community last fall at The Chief on the Beat Event, which was held at the Harry Stone Recreation Center. In conjunction with the Dallas Police Department, Mission East Dallas personnel included two dentists, one physician, three medical assistants, and additional help from Baylor College of Dentistry, which included a dentist and two dental students. Support personnel included Mission East Dallas employees and Board of Directors members.
More than 300 patients received medical and dental screenings. Dental screenings were done for participants of all ages and included an optional fluoride application for the pediatric population. Participants also received dental-specific literature on a range of oral health topics in English and Spanish. Medical screenings included hypertension and blood glucose-level screenings as well as the option to receive a free influenza vaccine. The most common conditions noted were cavitated lesions on permanent teeth and hypertension. With the donations received from Henry Schein Cares Foundation, Mission East Dallas was able to provide a record number of free services to participants. The donation proved to be very beneficial as no participant was turned away due to limited supplies and resources. Mission East Dallas looks forward to their participation in the Chief on the Beat Event next year!
