Mission Trip to Managua, Nicaragua

January 11-18, 2014 Global Health Outreach visited Managua, Nicaragua for a short-term medical/dental mission trip to House of Hope (Casa Esperanza).   The Team consisted of volunteer physicians, physician assistants, dentists, nurses, clergy, logistics, eyeglasses, pharmacy, and physical therapy.  The Team provided care to over 1200 patients total.  The Dental Team provided care to 268 patients, consisting of restorative, extractions, preventive care, and oral hygiene instruction, and prayer.  Only 1/3 of the dental patients were children.

This Team of 30 provided care to women and children of human trafficking.  At the end of the day, our backs ached but our heart was joyful.  The residents of House of Hope were victims of sexual slavery and exploitation, and prostitution.  When you make less than $1 per day, at the end of the day…you have to feed your family.  We would hear the testimony of exploited women at lunch…they have been in darkness for many years, beginning as early as 4-5 years old.  As much as your heart aches for them, there is joy because it is obvious they can be happy because they no longer have to sell their bodies for food.

Thank you Henry Schein Cares for all the dental supplies (toothbrushes, toothpaste, fluoride varnish and floss), which we used on all patients.  The hygiene package Henry Schein provided was treated as a special gift from all our patients.  Thank you again for being instrumental in making the care we provided possible.
