Schein’s Pupdates: Our Last Month Together

posted in: Henry Schein Cares | 3
Schein is a Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) puppy, which means he is no ordinary dog.

Through Canine Companions, he is learning to help a child or adult with disabilities increase their independence by being a friend and lending a helping hand paw.

Schein is being raised by Sallie, a volunteer puppy raiser who cares for and trains him for the first year and a half of his life.

Our monthly “Pupdates” share Sallie and Schein’s adventures and his growth as a CCI service dog in training. Read them all here.

October was a very poignant time for us with Schein.

He’s matriculating today, so everything we did this past month was the last time we will do them together.

We had our last trip to San Diego, last school visit, last fundraising event, and today is the last time we’ll call Schein our own service dog-in-training.

We even were on the local news here in Columbus to stir up excitement for today’s Canine Companions graduation ceremony.

It was so fun to talk about puppy raising and have gorgeous Schein there to show off how well he can stay on someone’s lap. As always, he was calm during the entire interview.

We have so many happy memories with Schein.

He’s worked so hard. We’ve exposed him to so many things to learn all of his commands with every kind of distraction you can imagine.

Today, Schein and I are spending our last day together before he goes back to CCI to be assessed and trained by the professionals. We’re filming his matriculation today, so we’ll share a video soon about our time together!

Until then, see our last adventures together in the photos below.

Can’t imagine how hard it must be to tell Schein goodbye. What a wonderful thing you have done in fostering and training him. What a blessing he will be for someone in need. Good luck to you both and God bless.
