In an effort to help provide communities in Southern Florida with access to dental care, the Dental Care Group and Dental Care Group Kids held their 4th annual Dentistry From Our Hearts event in Aventura, Florida this past February, providing locals with $180,000 in free dental treatments.
National averages show that less than 50% of Americans have dental insurance; to help close that gap, the Dental Care Group partnered with sponsors to reach those without access to oral care.
“Dentistry from Our Hearts is our day to help those in need,” Dr. Rick Mars said.
The team of doctors consisted of eight hygienists, 10 doctors and more than 40 volunteers. Between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., the team treated more than 400 children and adults. People came from Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Miramar and other areas in Florida to be treated at the Dental Care Groups’ offices in Aventura and Pembrooke Pines. These treatments included exams, cleanings, fillings, bondings and extractions.
Over the years, the recession has affected everyone in different ways, forcing families to prioritize. Unfortunately, this means oral health is left on the back burner for many families.
“Our practice has been fortunate to not only survive the recession, but to be in a position to give back,” Dr. Mars said.
The event was orchestrated to be fun and put a positive spin on oral care. To set that stage, there was a DJ and Pinkberry was one of the sponsors for the event, handing out free frozen yogurt to the attendees.
“Without the support of a variety of vendors, donating supplies and resources, our team for being focused and driven toward a successful event, and our many volunteers, this event would have not been possible,” Dr. Joshua Coussa said.
He added, “The Henry Schein Cares Foundation was one of many sponsors who helped make this event possible.”
